When you hire labor-only moving help, our movers will not have professional moving equipment or tools. Customers are responsible for arranging tools, blankets, and dollies. Professional moving equipment can be arranged with Ottawa Best Movers at an additional cost; just mention your request when booking.

Packing and unpacking services during your move are billed at our regular moving rates. You will be charged the straight hourly rate for all labor, with no additional surcharges while Ottawa Best Movers crew is packing or unpacking. The hourly rate does not include packing materials.

The following list represents estimated times required for standard moves. These estimates are for reference purposes only; actual move times may vary based on factors like building access, parking location, and number of flights of stairs.

These time estimates do not include flat travel time of one hour.

The hourly rate for our moving crew depends on the number of movers and trucks needed for each job. We strive to assign the optimal team size to ensure both cost efficiency and high productivity. For local moves starting in Ottawa, we charge a flat travel time of one hour, followed by hourly charges from when we begin unloading at your new location until the move is fully completed. If your move involves multiple pick-up or drop-off points, our clock starts when we leave our office in Ottawa and stops once everything is unloaded at your final destination.

A local move, by our standards, is any move that starts and ends within a 20-kilometer radius of Ottawa’s City Hall. This applies to moves within Ottawa and is based on the crew traveling by the fastest route. Local move fees include a standard one-hour charge for travel time at the contracted rate. This charge covers the cost of getting the crew to the job, refueling, and returning to the office after completion.

For example:

You hire a 2-man moving crew at $150/hour to move your belongings. Your move starts in Kanata at 9:00 AM. Your crew finishes unloading at your new home in Kanata 5 minutes away from old address at 1:00 PM. The elapsed time for your move is 4 hours. The total time billed for would be 5 hours (the elapsed time for your move plus one hour for travel time to/from your location). Your bill totals to 5 hours x $150 = $750 + tax.

With a Written Binding Estimate for your move, the price we quote is the price you pay! A Written Binding Estimate is the correct legal term for a “flat” price, as opposed to an hourly estimate. An on-site moving estimate is required in order for Ottawa Best Movers to provide a Written Binding Estimate and is based on the inventory of goods to be moved and services to be provided. As we have an opportunity to physically evaluate the goods, we are able to offer a flat price. If inventory of items changes during the move, Ottawa Best Movers will recalculate and provide a revised estimate. A flat rate is usually 15% to 20% higher then an hourly rate.

One hour of travel time and truck fee covers gas, mileage, and movers wages during the trip to loading and unloading locations. This charge applies to all local moves within Ottawa within a 20 km radius from City Hall.

If pickup or drop off locations are located 20 km or more from city hall additional travel time will apply.

Ottawa Best Movers provides long distance moving from Greater Ottawa to Montreal, Kingston and Toronto.

Ottawa Best Movers may charge extra fee for stairs.

Basic disassembly of items such as simple bed frames (without drawers) and dining tables is included in the regular hourly moving rate. Movers will not disassemble any item with electrical connections, like treadmills or refrigerators with electrical parts. You are charged only the straight hourly rate for all labor services, with no additional surcharges for basic disassembly. However, there may be an extra fee for reassembly of these items; please contact our representative for more information.

Disassembly and reassembly of items such as wardrobes, built-ins armoires and some wall units is completed by a furniture specialist. There is an extra charge for these services. Please speak to your project manager should you require such services, as Ottawa Best Movers representative may need to view the items prior to the move to estimate the cost and work required.

Extra heavy items

Ottawa Best Movers may charge extra fee for items over 150 lbs (e.g. big treadmills, safes, over sized file cabinets, marble tables, double door fridges, front loaded washers) if those items need to be moved up or down stairs.

If no stairs are involved, addition fee is not applicable.

Items over 275 LB (pianos, pool tables, over size safes, machinery, commercial kitchen equipment) can only be moved from main level to main level and will be charged a flat fee of $250 due to high liability costs.

Please inform our representative if you have items that require special handling before your moving day. Additional movers or a truck with a lift gate may be necessary.
